Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver Medal: Neeraj Chopra has won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. He could not defend the gold medal he won at the Tokyo Olympics, as this time the gold went to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. Neeraj was considered a strong contender for the gold medal, but Nadeem shocked the world by winning the gold and breaking the Olympic record. This is India’s fifth medal at the 2024 Olympics, after winning four bronze medals earlier.
Neeraj’s first attempt was unsuccessful, but in his second attempt, he threw the javelin 89.45 meters, marking his season’s best throw. His previous best throw of the 2024 season was 89.34 meters, achieved during the qualification round of the Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj had six attempts, of which five were fouls. The disappointment of not winning the gold medal was evident on Neeraj’s face. Nevertheless, he has set new standards for Indian athletes and youth.
Neeraj Sets a New Milestone
Neeraj has now become only the fourth athlete from independent India to win two Olympic medals. Before him, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu, and Manu Bhaker had each won two Olympic medals. Earlier, Neeraj had won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Pakistani Athlete Sets Olympic Record
In the final of the Paris Olympics 2024, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem stunned everyone. Like Neeraj Chopra, his first attempt was a foul, but in his second attempt, he threw the javelin 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. The previous Olympic record for javelin throw was held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who threw 90.57 meters at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Arshad Nadeem’s last throw also exceeded 90 meters, landing at 91.79 meters.
