Delhi court summons Dhruv Rathee in defamation case by BJP leader Suresh Karamshi Nakhua; “Dhruv Rathee Summoned by Delhi Court”.
A Delhi court has issued a summons to prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. This summons is based on a petition filed by Suresh Karmashi Nakhua, who has connections with the BJP. Suresh Karmashi Nakhua is a spokesperson for the BJP’s Mumbai unit. He filed the defamation case against Dhruv Rathee in Delhi’s Saket Court. On July 19, District Judge Gunjan Gupta held a hearing and ordered the issuance of a summons to Dhruv Rathee (dhruv rathee summoned by delhi court). The defamation case against Dhruv Rathee stems from a video titled “Exposing Dhruv Rathee And His Anti-India Propaganda,” uploaded by YouTuber Elvish Yadav on June 1, 2024. In response to Elvish’s allegations, Dhruv Rathee posted two videos: the first titled “My Reply to Godi Youtubers” on July 7, 2024, and the second titled “My Final Reply to Godi Youtubers” on July 21, 2024 (dhruv rathi elvish yadav, dhruv rathi elvish yadav reply video).
According to Bar and Bench, the allegation is that in the first video, Dhruv Rathee referred to BJP leader Suresh Karmashi Nakhua as a “violent and abusive troll” (bjp leader filed defamation case against dhruv rathee). Nakhua’s advocates, Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma, informed the court that at 6 minutes and 13 seconds into the video, Dhruv Rathee labeled Nakhua as part of “violent and abusive trolls,” which they argue is an unsubstantiated and damaging claim.
Nakhua claimed that the accusations made by Dhruv Rathee caused him to face widespread ridicule and criticism. His lawyers argued in court that Dhruv Rathee‘s “cunningly crafted” video campaign defamed Nakhua by making “malicious and baseless” allegations, which planted seeds of distrust and suspicion against him in society. They asserted that this has seriously impacted Nakhua’s personal and professional life, causing irreparable damage.
The controversy began when Elvish Yadav mentioned a person named Adil Aman in one of his videos, accusing him of making “indecent” comments and being an admin of an old Facebook group called “Dhruv Rathee Squad” (dhruv rathee delhi court). Responding to this, Dhruv Rathee explained that he had appointed the most active members as admins of the group, which included Adil, whom he did not know personally. Upon discovering Adil’s comments, he removed his admin rights and eventually shut down the Facebook group around 2020-21.
In his video, Dhruv Rathee also referred to Twitter accounts followed by PM Narendra Modi, citing a report from The Quint dated July 6, 2015, which mentioned that PM Modi had hosted “violent and abusive trolls” like Ankit Jain, Suresh Nakhua, and Tejinder Bagga at his official residence. Dhruv Rathee questioned whether PM Modi should have checked the background of these individuals before hosting them.
