Union minister misspells ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan; video surfaces on X
Savitri Thakur, the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, attended an event organised under the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ initiative on June 18, where she incorrectly wrote the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao‘ slogan.
This incident took place during the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ program at a government school in Dhar, prompting the opposition Congress to question their competence.
Dhar: A video of Union Minister Savitri Thakur incorrectly writing the slogan ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao‘ in Hindi during a program in Madhya Pradesh has surfaced on social media, prompting the opposition Congress to question her credibility.
Reacting to the viral video, senior Congress leader KK Mishra said, “It is unfortunate for democracy that people holding constitutional positions and responsible for major departments are not even proficient in their mother tongue. How will they manage their ministry?”
He added that the constitution should be amended to set a minimum educational qualification for candidates in elections. Mishra, who is the media advisor to Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari, said, “On one hand, there are claims about the literacy of the citizens of the country, while on the other hand, there is a lack of literacy among responsible individuals. So what is the truth? This is an issue related to the system, not to an individual.”
Manoj Somani, BJP president of Dhar district, alleged that the Congress’s uproar over the minister’s mistake made in haste during the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan‘ reflects their “petty and anti-tribal mindset.”
He said, “Savitri Ji’s emotions and sentiments are pure, but the Congress cannot keep their emotions pure. The tribal community will not forgive the insult of a tribal woman.”
“The Congress cannot digest the rising stature of a tribal woman. Umang Singhar, a tribal leader from Dhar district and the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, also criticized Thakur in a post on his X account. He said,
“What kind of leadership is this? Does Prime Minister Narendra Modi want only rubber stamp ministers in his government? There is no standard for what a public representative should be like, but at the very least, they should be literate.”
Singhar questioned how Thakur, despite being an MP and a Union Minister, could not even write two words correctly. He said,
“It can be understood how the children must have felt when they saw her writing incorrectly. One can only imagine what kind of leadership she will provide in the central government. Voters should have thought before electing such a public representative.”
Singhar said that the Modi government does not want educated leaders who question things because education not only provides literacy but also changes the mindset towards the upliftment of society.”
