Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles loss of lives in West Bengal train accident

Kanchanjungha Express Accident Latest News:  At least 15 people were killed and around 60 others injured after a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near Rangapani station in West Bengal, police said.

The collision between the Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train occurred around 9 AM on Monday. The PMO will provide a compensation of 2 lakh rupees each to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sorrow over the train accident in West Bengal. He wrote on X, “My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I have spoken to officials and reviewed the situation. Rescue operations are ongoing to assist those affected by the accident. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is also expected to reach the site.”

Additionally, following the PM’s post on X, the PMO also shared a post announcing that the families of each person killed in this train accident will receive an ex-gratia amount of 2 lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, while the injured will receive 50,000 rupees.

Amit Shah expressed sorrow over the accident

Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed sorrow over the accident. He posted on X, “The train accident in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, is very tragic. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate accident, and I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Congress criticizes BJP after the accident

Following the accident, the Congress attacked the BJP government. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “These incidents remind us once again of accidents like the Coromandel Express. Running one Vande Bharat train does not improve the condition of other trains. Regarding the Railway Minister’s arrival at the incident site, he said, ‘They are doing a great favor to the country. There was a time when they used to resign. Now they even collect praise for reaching the incident site.’ Currently, the priority is to rescue the people.”
